One of the things that sets Ghyll House Farm apart from most campsites is that it’s a real, working farm. When guests arrive, they’re not just coming to pitch a tent — they’re stepping into our family’s everyday life, and the animals are a big part of that.
Meet the animals at Ghyll House Farm
We keep sheep, pigs, and cattle, along with a range of poultry and fowl. The pigs are a particular favourite with younger visitors — they have a lot of personality and are never short of opinions at feeding time. We also have a small herd of free-range goats who roam around doing exactly as they please, which usually involves being somewhere they’re not supposed to be.

Then there are the farm dogs. Our eldest is Stan — he’s around 14 now, named after Mike’s late dad, and he takes a very dignified approach to campsite life. He’ll wander over to say hello, but he’s long past chasing anything he doesn’t have to. The younger dogs more than make up for it — friendly, energetic, and very pleased to meet anyone who comes through the gate.
It’s a genuine farm camping experience in Yorkshire, which is exactly what we set out to offer. Kids who’ve never seen a piglet or fed a goat go home with stories to tell. And for adults, there’s something grounding about being close to animals and the rhythms of farm life.
We also sell home-reared pork and lamb products from the farmhouse — just ask when you arrive. Nothing beats cooking something like that over a campfire.

All of this is part of life at Ghyll House Farm, right on the edge of Ilkley Moor. The nicest way to meet the animals is to stay in one of our glamping teepees — book your stay.
